I never thought I would say this: wallpaper is back, in a very big way.

According to Jennifer Ebert from Homes and Gardens in Britain, “Wallpaper is a key trend for 2020. Whatever your taste, there is something everyone, from traditional florals and trompe l’oeil, to contemporary geometric and tropical patterns or animal motifs and architectural designs.”
Why did I think I would never say this? Well, when I was a kid, my Mom, who was an architect, dove headfirst into a wallpaper craze. She used to hang it HERSELF, God bless her! But her DIY projects always meant that we kids were her support staff. Those seams are incredibly hard, particularly if you are working with a pattern and are a perfectionist like she was. After doing a few rooms in our house, plus my Dad’s office, she developed an aversion. I inherited it.

But it’s back, with a vengeance, and I’m warming up to it. Not only because adding wallpaper can create a huge impact in a room, but it can also be TEMPORARY. Now you can go the peel-and-stick route, which avoids the messy paste. And, if you’re renting, you won’t be at risk of losing your security deposit. Just pull it down before you go!
If you have the gift and can hang these things straight, then this can be a great DIY project for you, since the removable kind can be reapplied should you make a mistake. Bear in mind though, most walls and ceilings are not perfectly straight, while the seam of your wallpaper is. So, you’ll need to decide what your guide will be – because it won’t necessarily be your level. Plan B is always to call Honeyman for help.
