Most years the thought of holiday preparations is a source of stress. But this year, with the pandemic and politics constantly on my mind, I’m wholeheartedly embracing the holiday spirit. I have every intention of going all out and have started my planning extra early!
Of course, my husband and I have had all of the discussions (read: arguments) about how to celebrate safely, and plan to be super selective and cautious in our interactions with people outside of our bubble. We’ve been super careful thus far, and don’t want to let the “pandemic fatigue” set in and let our guards down. But I unabashedly admit that I get teary-eyed every time I think about seeing, in person, family that I haven’t seen in months!
Holiday travel is down significantly this year: Christmas travel is down by 46% and Thanksgiving travel by 38%. But we have a 7-month-old granddaughter we haven’t even met, and a daughter that has been in China for a year. So, our girls are coming, families in tow, to town for the holidays! We will celebrate in a socially distanced way, and even if we are all masked all the time and can’t hug until we get tested, I’m still OVERJOYED!

I’m planning meals and outdoor activities and gift lists. I will inventory my Christmas décor, and begin looking online to see what else to add. We do traditional silver and gold with red, and every year add new ornaments to our tree. However, no Covid-19 shaped ornaments in this house! I am also making my list of home improvement projects that we need to get done. The Honey-do list includes painting the guest room, some minor updates in the guest bathroom, and baby proofing.
